When reading about orthodontics, you may have noticed another term used a lot: dentofacial orthopedics. What is this?
Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics is one of nine specialties doctors can go into after becoming dentists. This specialty focuses on managing tooth movement, guiding facial growth, and ensuring proper development. Because growth and development occur during childhood, this is called dentofacial orthopedics.
Orthodontists can therefor treat patients of all ages, but due to their ability to harness growth for prime results, they are able to offer specialized treatment to children.
